The Salem Education Foundation offers many scholarships that are made possible through endowments from our local community members.
Scholarship forms are available at your high school counselors office. Forms can also be printed from the website. Please visit the FORMS page to download and find instructions for submission. |
Thornhill Family Scholarship
The Thornhill Family Scholarship was established to assist a Rappahannock County High School Graduating Senior in pursuing a college or university degree. The Thornhill Family has a long history of supporting Rappahannock County youth and this scholarship represents continuing dedication to youth and their development. A letter of acceptance from an appropriate institution is required to claim the scholarship. The check will be payable to the institution for the account of the successful candidate. 2025 Recipient Hugh Garner Christopher Newport University
Phoenix Scholarship
The Phoenix Scholarship is offered to college students that are permanent residents of Culpeper or Rappahannock County, have completed at least one year toward their degree, and are in clear need of financial assistance to continue their course of study leading to the completion of their degree or professional certification. The program of study may be at an accredited institution. The Phillips-Yancey-Southard Scholarship
The Phillips-Yancey-Southard Scholarship rewards a graduating senior from Rappahannock or Culpeper County who has demonstrated true perseverance and determination when faced with unfair challenges and obstacles. Successful applicants may use the scholarship for college or university tuition. Checks will be payable to the institution for the account of the successful applicant. 2025 Recipient Grayson Parker Virginia Tech University
The Paul Kite Yancey, Katie Baron Yancey and Mary Lou Yancey Phillips Phoenix Scholarship
The Paul Kite Yancey, Katie Baron Yancey and Mary Lou Yancey Phillips Phoenix Scholarship was established to recognize graduating high school seniors from Culpeper and Rappahannock Counties who demonstrate a financial need in which attending college would cause significant adverse circumstances, beyond their control, making it impossible to attend college without incurring significant debt. Paul and Katie Yancey were Culpeper dairy farmers who operated Mountain View Farm, located on both sides of Mount Zion Church Road.
